1 December 2009 EIF Breakfast on the sidelines of the 7th WTO Ministerial Conference (Geneva, Switzerland)
  • LDCs, donors and EIF core agencies attended the meeting.
  • The meeting took stock of the progress achieved in implementing the EIF for LDCs, with a particular focus on the experience of beneficiary countries, and highlighted the challenges for the way ahead.
11 November 2009 EIF Trust Fund Manager presents the Annual Progress Report to the Interim Board (Geneva, Switzerland)
  • It was concluded that “the EIF process is on the right track. The great challenge for the nearest future is to accelerate results to meet increasing expectations from all the stakeholders (…) the formation of human capital and the establishment of a knowledge-based information system”.

Cambodia obtains access to Tier 1 of the EIF (Phnom Penh, Cambodia)

  • The proposal submitted by the Royal Government of Cambodia in July 2009 was approved by consensus by the IF Interim Board.
  • The proposal was developed under the framework of the project UNDP/Ministry of Commerce TRADE project, and it will provide USD 1,694,600 of which USD 1,493,000 is contributed by the EIF Trust Fund and USD 200,700 by the Royal Government of Cambodia.
  • This will allow the country to enhance its national capacity to formulate, implement, manage, and monitor a pro-poor trade policy consistent with its National Development Plan and with its Millennium Development Goals.

The first EIF Global Workshop takes place (Geneva, Switzerland)

  • It brought together the EIF Focal Points, donor facilitators and other development partners.
  • It focused on the EIF objectives, helped participants gain a clear understanding of how the EIF works in practice, and enabled beneficiary countries and development partners to share feedback on the process and its implementation.

1 July 2009

The IF Interim Board approves the first two EIF projects (Geneva, Switzerland)

  • After the revision phase of the key operational policies was achieved, the first two projects to be financed by the EIF Trust Fund for a total of USD 1, 939,859 were approved.
  • The first one, submitted by the Government of Yemen, is entitled "Support to NIU/FP core function in order to implement the EIF".
  • A second proposal entitled "EIF Tier 1 Project" was submitted by the Government of Sierra Leone.

A study on the Monitoring and Evaluation Framework is submitted to the EIF Interim Board (Geneva, Switzerland)
 

  • Funded by Norway, the study was the result of field missions undertaken in Rwanda and Uganda in order to bring in the practical elements.
  • The Monitoring and Evaluation Framework would allow all partners, donors and beneficiary countries to assess the overall performance of the programme, as well as establish whether or not the targets are met, and, when targets are not met, why this is so.
  • The members are expected to make comments which will be consolidated and submitted to the Interim Board.
